The awards were held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood and hosted by 'Alec Baldwin', & 'Steve Martin'. Famous celebrities, Oscar presenters and nominees walked the Red Carpet at the Hollywood's biggest night.

10 films were nominated this year for 'Best Film'. The nominations were - 'Avatar', 'The Blind Side', 'District 9', 'An Education', 'The Hurt Locker', 'Inglourious Basterds' & 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire', 'A Serious Man', 'Up' and 'Up in the Air'. The nominations for 'Direction' were - 'James Cameron', ' Kathryn Bigelow', ' Quentin Tarantino', 'Lee Daniels', and 'Jason Reitman'.

One of the memorable moments was 'The Hurt Locker' bagging the Oscar for 'Best Picture' & 'Direction' and 'Kathryn Bigelow' to be the first women director to receive an Oscar. 'Jeff Bridges' stole everyone's heart and won the 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' award for 'Crazy Heart'. 'Christoph Waltz', who played Col. Hans Landa, was awarded the 'Best Actor in the Supporting Role for 'Inglourious Basterds'. 'Sandra Bullock' received her first Oscar in the category of 'Best Actress in a Leading Role' for her role as Leigh Anne in 'The Blind Side' and 'Monique' was the 'Best Actress in a Supporting Role' for 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire'.

Disney Pixar once again proved their love for creativity through their animated comedy adventure 'Up' winning the award for the 'Best Animated Film'. 'Avatar', which was expected to collect almost every Oscar, surprisingly won awards in just three categories ' Art Direction', 'Cinematography' and 'Visual Effects'. 'The Hurt Locker' on the other hand won 6 Oscars out of 9 nominations in the category of 'Best Picture', 'Directing', 'Film Editing', ' Sound Editing', 'Sound Mixing', 'Writing (Original Screenplay)'. Tweet for Haiti & Red Cross Relief Efforts

On 12th January, an earthquake with 7.0 magnitude struck Haiti leaving the country paralyzed. By now, most of you have probably heard and seen a lot of news, emails and tweets asking to donate for the recovery efforts for the earthquake victims. We at twitMovie.com are trying to do our part and help the recovery effort. This is not donation drive, but we ask to help us in our "Tweet for Haiti & Red Cross" campaign.

What is "Tweet for Haiti & Red Cross" campaign?
Instead of spending money on marketing campaigns where we would give away a free movie DVD or movie tickets, we have decided to donate that money to Red Cross for Haiti relief effort. We ask for your help to make this campaign successful - for every movie review tweet that you write we would give .25 cents to Red Cross, this might sound like a small effort but it depends how much help we can get from you. The more reviews you write the more money we can donate. You can also help by spreading word about our efforts.

What are the requirements?
All you need to do is write a tweet from one of categories below using hashtags #twitmovie along with #haiti, so we can count them:

1. Write a movie review using hashtags #twitmovie and #haiti.
Example tweet:  Just saw the avatar, mind blowing visuals and a breath-taking movie. I give it a 4.5/5 #twitmovie #haiti

2. Tell us your favorite movie using hashtags #favmovie #twitmovie and #haiti.
Example tweet:  My #favmovie is The Usual Suspects #twitmovie #haiti

3. Retweet the following tweet
"I'm reading & sharing movie reviews and watching trailers using www.twitMovie.com. #twitmovie #haiti"

Thank you all for your support and we welcome your generous efforts to help us spread the word about our campaign to contribute to Haiti relief efforts. Learn more about Red Cross Haiti Relief Efforts - http://bit.ly/7ZgYpM

The Ugly Truth 2.5/5 - Movie review #twitmovie

The_ugly_truth_1

The Ugly Truth

There are romantic comedies and then there are some.  The Ugly Truth which masquerades as a romantic comedy, more aptly  belongs to sub genre of 'uptight woman meets fun loving man and both talk in cliches' .  Move over Meg Ryan we have a dazzling new star of this breathtaking sub genre.  And if Meg Ryan's career is any guide it would not be long before we see more of Heigl in such romcom movies.

Katherine Heigl plays Abby, a producer for a ratings starved morning television show in Sacramento (why?), which specializes in idiosyncratic news couple, cooking tips and weather updates. She's single and by moral barometer of  Hollywood she must be unhappy. Her life goes haywire when her boss hires a professional ape, Mike played charmingly by Gerald Butler (300 fame minus the sandals), whose shocking and seemingly profound platitudes on camera about the sexes boil down to one fact: Woman have to accommodate men any which way they can, preferably in push-up bras and remote-controlled vibrating panties. Why - because men are apes women are wise homo sapiens and since there is profound gap in their understandings the wise one should take care of the rowdy one.

If not for the loud readings, cliched dialogue and over acting by the leads and dare we say - predictable storyline - you might just have the passable movie.  Gerald Butler does his best to carry the funny sequences, which are trying hard to be funny, and Heigl is her perky self but the story line is too weak to be carried all the way.  Frankly, we have seen better.
